Exporting a Backup to Amazon S3

Before you can upload data to Amazon S3, you must:

    • Create a bucket in one of the AWS Regions to store your data. You can find further information here.
    • Create a new S3 Endpoint in OwnBackup. You can find further information here.
NOTE: OwnBackup is not responsible for data exported from OwnBackup to external storage. OwnBackup cannot be held responsible for the security, privacy or protection of data in any external storage. You are responsible for your Snowflake Data Warehouse Account security and privacy. We are unable to check that it is secure.

    2. Navigate to the service you wish to export.
    3. Select the specific backup session (date) that you wish to export.

    1. The screen will display the dashboard for the backup (date) that you selected. Click the Export button.

    1. The Export Backup dialog box appears. In the Export to dropdown list, select the Amazon S3 option.

    1. In the Select Endpoint drop-down list, select the Endpoint where you wish to export to.

    1. If you wish to include attachments, check the Include attachments checkbox..
    2. Click Export.
    3. If you have not set up the S3 bucket with the necessary permissions an error message is displayed when you click Export.

    1. Click Yes, Export to confirm. The export starts a new job.
    1. When the export job is complete, the screen will display a confirmation that the Backup Export job has successfully completed, along with a summary of the backup (number of records, etc.).

    1. Check your S3 bucket for the exported files.

The export creates a folder with the backup name under the path provided. The GZIP file created for each object is a zipped CSV file. The export uploads the files to this folder, if a file was previously uploaded (same backup, same object) the file is overwritten.

    1. To keep all historic versions of the object, enable versioning on the bucket.

Click here to see a list of the objects that are excluded from the data export.
